Taylor Stitch doing it right

On a recent jolly to SF I found myself being led in to one of the most friendly, resourceful and accomplished stores in town. Taylor Stitch make fine things, shirts being their main gig, but immediately the bespoke shoe area grabbed my attention. This is how it is properly executed...

1, 2, 3, 4 DONE! A simple concept offered perfectly. A partner company making moccasins and able to cater specifically to the Taylor Stitch customer. Delightful to see.

Rancourt & Co. Moccasin shoes, boots, leathers and soles to choose from.

The staff at Taylor Stitch are swell - a big thank you to Michael, Michael, Barrett, Jenilee, Juan and Kazu for being SO welcoming and inviting me to hang out there for a while.

Belts made locally in SF.

Their bespoke shirt service is another story, go to taylorstitch.com to see what they do!
Ladies shirts on their way... yeah!

White lace teardrops

This pair has a 1950's white lace trim which is absolutely gorgeous.

Sewing it on took some time but was worth it in the end.

Cheerio little workshop

On to pastures new....

Plumo competition winner

Jan was the lucky winner of a bespoke pair of moccasins in the recent Plumo competition.

Jan dropped by the workshop to choose her leathers and trims, do a size fit, and go over all the details. We had a great time.

In the end she chose a dark green suede paired with a very delicate embroidered ribbon trim in navy and gold. I can't wait to make them and see the final result.

Tassels

You can request tassels with your bespoke order as an extra detail like this customer did. It makes quite a difference to the overall look of the shoe, and we love the outcome!

The tassel is rolled up and then pierced with the awl to make a couple of holes either side. One strong stitch with waxed thread is then sewn through to secure the tassel, this is called a bar stitch.
